Rory McIlroy will be playing in a few events in the UK this year, the world No 1 confirmed that he will return to Wentworth in May to defend his BMW PGA Championship title. Justin Rose was the second high-profile players to commit to the European Tour's flagship event, which has previously attracted a strong feel.
McIlroy claimed his first BMW Championship and victory on British soil by overcoming a seven-shot deficit on Sunday. His impressive final-round 66 earned him a one-stroke victory over fellow Irishman Shane Lowry.
His Victory on the BMW Championship broke a 18 month drought which later proved to be the start of his momentous year, later going on to win the Open Championship at Hoylake, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and USPGA Championship, resulting in him topping the WGR and becoming the No1 golfer on the planet.
"To return to Wentworth as defending champion is a huge honour and I can’t wait to draw on the memories of 2014.”
The event will also be a showcase for golf in the UK, there will be advertisements and promotions placed all over the capital. Hopefully this will inspire the future generation of youngsters to pick up a club or keep working hard.
